Radiation Oncology Team at Austin Health


 Austin Health Radiation Oncology at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre (ONJ Centre) is committed to providing a service that embraces new technology, new techniques and new ways of treating each patient so that the best outcome can be achieved. We’re a team of technologically driven health professionals encompassing radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, medical physicists underpinned by allied health, nursing and administrative support services to ensure we deliver the best care available; efficiently and focused on the needs of  each individual patient.  Our team is constantly working with referrers, researchers and consumers to improve patient outcomes through evidence based processes and new and innovative technologies. Demonstrating this is the current project underway to commission an Elekta Unity MR Linac and 1.5T Philips Ingenia Ambition MRI for RT Simulation supporting a full MRI workflow for radiotherapy patients.


The role


We have an exciting opportunity for an MR Radiographer to join the Radiation Oncology team at the ONJ Centre. This is a full time position created to provide leadership and direction to the multidisciplinary team during Device acceptance testing, commissioning and implementation of the integrated MR Service for radiotherapy planning and treatment. The MR Radiographer will work directly with the Radiation Oncologists, Radiation Therapists and Medical Physicists to support the implementation, operation, clinical use and research associated with MRI at the ONJ Centre. It is desirable that the radiographer is familiar with Philips MRI equipment or can demonstrate ability to undertake self-directed/supported learning to ensure competence in use of clinical systems.


Desirable requirements for this role include



  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Medical Radiations or equivalent

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Medical Radiation Practitioner by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, (AHPRA)

  • Have a current license for radiation use with the Victorian Department of Health, or hold a qualification and have the clinical experience necessary to be eligible for such a license

  • Hold Level 2 MRI Accreditation or equivalent certification recognized by The Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT)

  • Excellent knowledge of MRI safety, examination techniques and equipment

  • Demonstrated ability to accept significant administrative responsibility

  • Demonstrated planning skills in staff co-ordination, development of the MRI service and of training programs
