Eastern Health

Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest public health services. We provide a range of emergency, surgical, medical and general healthcare services, including maternity, palliative care, mental health, drug and alcohol, residential care, community health and state-wide specialist services to people and communities that are diverse in culture, age, socio-economic status, population and healthcare needs.

About the role

Are you an experienced and enthusiastic public health professional?

Keen to contribute to the evolving public health movement in Victoria?

Then this role may be for you!

The North Eastern Public Health Unit (NEPHU) is one of nine public health units in Victoria; three in metropolitan Melbourne and six covering regional Victoria. Together these units form a coordinated network, working in partnership with the Department of Health to deliver a comprehensive public health program for Victoria. While NEPHU was initially focused on end-to-end COVID-19 case identification, contact tracing, outbreak management and community engagement, we are progressively taking on broader public health functions beyond COVID-19 in 2022, strengthening relationships with community-based partners. This is an exciting opportunity to help design a fresh, new, integrated approach to effective health protection, prevention and promotion activity and team building in the North Eastern region of metropolitan Melbourne.

The Public Health and Wellbeing Coordinator is responsible for facilitating partner collaboration to deliver public health activities in the NEPHU catchment area, with a particular focus on the high priority areas detailed in the Victorian Public Health and Wellbeing Plan.  The role will ensure activities undertaken or coordinated by the NEPHU are robust, evidence based and high value to our population. The Public Health and Wellbeing Coordinator will provide expertise and advice on prevention, health promotion and population health activities to NEPHU staff and external stakeholders.

About you

  • Experience in and knowledge of public health and associated government policy, planning and initiatives.

  • Knowledge and in-depth understanding of the social determinants of health, health promotion principles and practices, community development, and evidence-based approaches to public health.

  • Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality, and practice ethical conduct.

  • Ability to build networks and work effectively with multi-disciplinary groups of professionals across a range of roles, levels and organisations.

  • Demonstrated ability in project planning and project management using a variety of methodologies and tools

  • Demonstrated success in developing and activating multi-agency networks in a community or health services environment

  • An ability to work independently, or with minimum supervision, as well as being able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
