Breast Screen Nurse / Counsellor - North Western BreastScreen

  • Part Time ongoing role
  • Work closely with clinical staff in a multidisciplinary environment providing support and information to women and their families
  • BreastScreen provides high quality mammography and assessment services to women in the north western region
  • Business hours, no evening or weekend shifts

North Western BreastScreen is part of Royal Melbourne Hospital and BreastScreen Victoria. The Program offers free digital mammograms to women in the target group, aged 50-69, living or working in the north western region of Melbourne. The service is also accessible to women 40 to 75 years old.   North Western delivers an expert clinical and non-clinical breast service with great emphasis on a multidisciplinary team approach, whereby clinical and support staff work together at the assessment centre located at the Royal Park Campus.

BreastScreen Victoria services are delivered throughout Victoria and involve a mix of public and private providers.

Your new role:

The nurse/counsellor is a key member of the multidisciplinary team, responsible for providing telephone and face to face information and support to women returning for further investigations following the detection of a change in the screening mammogram.

Main duties include:

  • Commitment to person-centred care and best practice standards.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity, empathy and respect for customs, values and beliefs.
  • Providinh telephone and face to face support and information to women returning to clinic for further investigation following the detection of a possible abnormality.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective communication with all other health professionals and support staff, consumers, families, the community and external care providers.

About you:

  • You have acute hospital experience with a collaborative working style.
  • You are looking to expand your nursing skills and work with world leaders in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
  • You have effective communication skills and a passion for continued professional development.
  • You are an AHPRA registered Nurse with ward experience and are willing to work with our supportive and dedicated multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to maintain accurate and current electronic medical records in compliance with professional and legal standards.
