Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria.


Forensicare is situated across five sites across Victoria with its largest site being Thomas Embling Hospital, located in Fairfield, just 15 minutes north of the Melbourne city centre. Thomas Embling Hospital is a 136-bed secure hospital providing acute care, rehabilitation and continuing care programs. It includes a dedicated women’s unit.



About the Role:



  • A new and developing role to build the capacity of Forensicare to develop and embed AOD specialist interventions.

  • The Nurse Practitioner-AOD provides an advanced nursing practice role within Thomas Embling Hospital with a key focus on specialist AOD screening, assessment, treatment and referral.

  • The Nurse Practitioner provides professional leadership for all staff contributing to education, training and professional development across the service and building the capacity of Forensicare staff and some project work in relation to the development of AOD capacity within Forensicare.



Duties:



  • Conducts specialist AOD assessments, screening and specific interventions.

  • Implements strategies to better manage people with alcohol and drug related difficult behaviours and co-morbid mental health concerns.

  • Contributes to the development and evaluation of comprehensive treatment plans that are evidence based and informed by specialist knowledge.

  • Refers patients to other specialties and departments as required with recommendations for future management. 

  • Orders and monitors the results of tests and investigations within the NP practice guidelines.

  • Ensures Clinical decisions are informed by evidence based practice.


About You:



  • An expert nurse that role models leadership behaviours.

  • Extensive and advanced clinical knowledge and at least five years of experience in a senior nursing role.

  • Commitment to evidence based treatment for people with Alcohol and Other Drug issues.

  • Orders and monitors the results of tests and investigations within the NP practice guidelines.

  • Advanced clinical knowledge, skills and experience.

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work independantly and within a multidisciplinary service delivery framework.

  • Strong evidence of participation in research, project management and quality improvement activities that support the development of programs and the nursing workforce.

  • Ensures Clinical decisions are informed by evidence based practice.


What you need:

  • Registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Division 1 nurse with endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner.

  • The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential
