What is the Enhanced Mental Health & AOD Response Service?

The Peninsula Health Enhanced MH & AOD Response Service is based in the Emergency Department at Frankston Hospital and provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment and assertive outreach services to individuals aged 16 years and over presenting with acute mental health and / or AOD issues.

What You Will Be Doing

As the Nurse Practitioner, you will provide clinical leadership, and holistic, patient centered care from admission through to discharge from the ED and within the Outreach Service. Your responsibilities will include:

• Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting Nurse Practitioner care for individuals presenting to ED and clients of the MH AOD Outreach Service

• Prescribing medications and ordering diagnostic investigations within Scope of Practice and Peninsula Health guidelines

• Conducting mental health and physical screening assessments and risk assessments and determining appropriate pathways for individuals presenting to ED and clients of the MH AOD Outreach Service

• Monitoring patient flow and organising resources accordingly

• Mentoring and supervising Nurse Practitioner Candidates and other senior clinicians

• Providing clinical leadership to Emergency Department staff and being the initial point for clinical escalation for Emergency Mental Health and MH & AOD Outreach staff

What You Need

We anticipate you will have:

• AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with Nurse Practitioner endorsement

• Masters of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner)

• Post graduate qualifications in Mental Health and additional qualifications in AOD

• Current Prescriber Number

• Extensive experience in the MH & AOD field including acute in-patient services and/or community mental health care and recent experience in the Nurse Practitioner role

• Proven ability in the management of clients with a major mental illness and AOD use and in techniques of assessment, crisis intervention, and counselling and psychosocial rehabilitation

• Experience in developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating innovative clinical services

• Strong leadership skills
