Barwon Health’s McKellar Centre is a recently upgraded facility located only minutes from the centre of Geelong. It is situated on a vibrant community asset with parkland surrounds and incorporates state of the art equipment. Wallace Lodge, located at the McKellar Centre, is a 108 bed, high level, aged care residential facility. We offer focused professional development with dedicated nursing educators on site, set within new state-of-the-art facilities.
Blakiston Lodge is a 90-bed, high level, residential aged care mental health facility which consists of two secure units of 45 aged mental health beds and 45 dementia specific beds. Residents are referred who cannot be looked after in the general aged care system due to their level of cognitive, emotional or behavioural disturbance. The goal is to improve the resident's condition so that they can be transferred to a less restrictive and more appropriate accommodation.
Blakiston Lodge is dedicated to caring for people with dementia and mental illness and offers a safe and secure environment and quality nursing, medical and psychiatric support for residents.
The role of the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) is to co-ordinate and manage the day to day operations of the ward encompassing strategic planning of financial, capital, human and physical resources. The NUM will act as a role model, providing leadership and practice within the core values of Barwon Health. Overall the NUM will form an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team and will be required to ensure highly responsive and flexible service to internal and external health care providers. The position is full time and ongoing.
