As a leader of the nursing team, the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) is at the forefront of the provision of high quality nursing care to patients within the multidisciplinary ward environment through effective leadership, management of staff and resources, and the development of partnerships with all the disciplines working within the Paediatric unit.

We are seeking an innovative and experienced NUM to lead the Children’s Ward in the Joan Kirner Women’s, and Children’s at Sunshine Hospital. The Women’s and Children’s Service provides quality health care within a diverse community across the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. Our Paediatric Unit caters for children from birth to 17 years. The 20 bed unit, with approximately 3000 admissions per year, provides both medical and surgical care. Our Maternity service has a diverse birthing population with over 6,100 births per year and is still growing!

Skills & Experience & Essential Criteria

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Nursing qualification or equivalent

  • Registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia

  • Completion of Post graduate studies in Paediatric Care or equivalent

  • Demonstrated high level management skills

  • Demonstrated operational management skillset, key principle understanding and knowledge of financial, workforce, activity and access and safety and quality domains

  • Demonstrated skills and experience to manage a Paediatric Unit 

  • A commitment to high quality, safe and person centred patient care         


  • Post graduate qualification at Masters Level or working towards

  • Experience in a leadership role
