About the University Geelong Hospital and McKellar Centre
The University Hospital Geelong has 406 beds and provides a full suite of medical and surgical services, including cardiothoracic surgery and is one of the busiest hospitals in the state. Occupational Therapists work primarily on the general medical and surgical wards, neurology, orthopaedics and oncology wards, short stay unit, Emergency Department and with hand therapy outpatients.
Barwon Health has an extensive building projects occurring with additional acute beds, an integrated cancer project, redevelopment of library, education and research facilities and a northern suburbs urgent care, specialist consultation services development.
Barwon Health’s McKellar Centre located only minutes from the centre of Geelong. It is situated on a vibrant community asset with parkland surrounds. The centre offers a range of rehabilitation services that enable people to make a dynamic recovery. It is a 100 bed inpatient facility offering rehabilitation in palliative care, geriatric evaluation and management, stroke, trauma, orthopaedic and amputee service. We have state-of-the-art facilities in regard to assistive technology and education facilities.
About the role
We are seeking applications from experienced Grade 1 Grade 2 Occupational Therapists who are interested in working casually. The positions could be in acute and/or subacute care, depending on your experience and interest. Ideally we are looking for Occupational Therapists available to work during the week and in short term contracts.
You will be part of a large Occupational Therapy community of over 100 staff. Comprehensive orientation will be provided, access to professional development is available and the opportunity to work in a variety of clinical is encouraged. You may supervision rotational Grade 1 Occupational Therapists and have access to Allied Health Assistants.
Participation in the general ward weekend/public holiday roster maybe a requirement of the position if it leads to a short term contract.
We have a strong partnership with Deakin University for education and research. This role requires you to possess excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal aptitudes. A high level of commitment to best practice in patient care is a must. The role requires an excellent understanding of the continuum of care and a broad range of clinical skills.
