Occupational Therapist Grade 2

Care of the elderly in acute or sub-acute hospital environment

  • Three roles available: Part Time or Full Time; Fixed Term to June 2023 or ongoing

An opportunity exists for a grade 2 Occupational Therapist to join the Occupational Therapy team at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. Join one of acute based Geriatric Evaluation and Management unit (GEM@City), Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) unit or sub-acute based GEM.

We have three roles available as a result of internal staff career progression and through securing specialist service funding. These roles provide therapy to patients on the ward with the goal of preventing acute functional decline, expediting functional recovery from illness and facilitating early discharge from the acute setting. Therapy is at higher intensity in acute compared to sub-acute.

Each role is supported by a grade 3 full time senior clinician and stream leader, OT research leader, OT workforce manager and the OT manager. The team is a cohesive group of professionals who support and encourage professional development and career growth. The Occupational Therapy (OT) department is aligned with the broader Allied Health service.
Your new role:

  • Provide excellent, evidence based and patient centred care including assessment, intervention and discharge planning for patients in the sub-acute hospital wards.

  • Supervise and educate junior occupational therapists, allied health assistants and occupational therapy students.

  • Demonstrate excellent communication strategies with patients, relatives, staff and relevant services in order to provide appropriate services, information and leadership.

  • Actively lead and participate in Allied Health quality improvement initiatives and research.

About you:

  • You have hospital experience with a collaborative working style.

  • You have excellent communication skills and a passion for continued professional development for yourself and others.

  • You are an AHPRA registered Occupational Therapist dedicated to providing evidence based practice.

  • You value working with supportive and dedicated Occupational Therapists and multidisciplinary teams.

  • You have effective time management and prioritisation skills.
