The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Occupational Therapist (Rivergum) to provide a critical role in Forensic Intervention Services.

About the business unit

As a division of Corrections Victoria, Forensic Intervention Services is a specialist program area within the Offender Services Division that provides offenders in custody and in the community with offence-specific, evidence-based screening, assessment, and intervention services to support their rehabilitation.  In doing so, Forensic Intervention Services is a critical component of the department's strategy to reduce reoffending and contribute to community safety.

Rivergum Residential Treatment Centre provides a therapeutic treatment option for individuals convicted of serious sexually violent and/or violent offences who are subject to supervision orders under Victoria's post-sentence scheme, which applies to individuals who have finished their prison sentences but who continue to pose an unacceptable risk to the community.

Rivergum is designed to enhance community safety by treating  individuals on supervision orders in a secure but non-punitive therapeutic environment, with a strong focus on treatment intervention and rehabilitation, working with complex individuals within a trauma-informed approach.

About the role

The position works closely with the Clinical Services Manager, Senior Clinicians within Forensic Intervention Services, Specialist Case Managers and Specialist Case Workers. Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) is also offered at Rivergum and this position works alongside the use of such therapeutic intervention. This position is based at Rivergum in Ararat.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Autonomously plan, implement, document and evaluate occupational therapy assessment and treatment with an identified resident group.
  • Co-facilitate therapeutic group programs
  • In consultation with the Clinical Services Manager, provide input into treatment and intervention pathways for residents at Rivergum.
  • Provide leadership and authoritative clinical advice to Rivergum clinical staff and case managers, developing and maintaining a culture that supports best practice and maintains a therapeutic community in relation to occupational therapy assessment and treatment of relevant service users.
