About the Roles

Paediatric Registrar applications are now open and are being coordinated via PMCV: https://www.pmcv.com.au/aps/matches

If you have Sunshine Hospital 2-year positions on your preference list, you are required to register on both the PMCV site and the Western Health Mercury e-recruit site.  A separate cover letter for the 2 year program is required and should be uploaded to the Mercury site.

Sunshine Hospital serves a large paediatric population. There is a 32 bed Children's Ward with a mixture of medical and surgical patients, admitting 5,000 children per year.  There are approximately 30,000 Paediatric Emergency presentations per year, and General Paediatrics works closely with the team in the Paediatric Emergency department.  There is a busy General Paediatric Outpatient unit, and trainees get plenty of (well-supported) experience in outpatient medicine.  There are a number of paediatric subspecialty outpatient services including cardiology, allergy, adolescent medicine, dermatology and endocrinology.  The positions are accredited by the RACP for Advanced Training in General Paediatrics (without perinatal).

Applications are made directly to the PMCV  https://www.pmcv.com.au/aps/matches

A cover letter and registration should also be uploaded via this advert.

Notable features of the department and position include:

  • Paediatric consultant support with daily consultant ward rounds.

  • Exposure to a wide range of inpatient and outpatient situations requiring independent decision making, with close consultant support and dedicated admin time.

  • At least 5 paediatric registrars are on-site 24/7 across the Children’s Ward, Paed ED, and NICU

  • Active teaching and research programs in place with expectation of contributions by the successful applicant(s).  Simulation scenarios are regularly run on the ward.  Participation in quarterly Regional education programs and full day group simulation programs is also available.

The positions at Sunshine Hospital will suit paediatric trainees wanting an opportunity to develop broad skills in general paediatrics and meet core training requirements for General Paediatrics.

Positions with other Health Services will be provided as separate contracts for each Health Service.  Leave of absence during (or prior to commencing) a rotation will not guarantee availability of specific rotations on return to service at the Health Service.
