The Monash Health Pharmacy Department is seeking enthusiastic and committed pharmacists to further develop their pharmacy skills and career within the supported environment of the Monash Health network.

About the role

  • The Monash Health Clinical Trials Pharmacy provides pharmacy services to over 300 active trials across a wide variety of specialties and ages including oncology, haematology, and paediatrics. It is located in the Monash Health Translational Precinct, working together with researchers and clinical partners

  • The Monash Health Pharmacy Department provides clinical services to patients in outpatient clinics and wards across the entire lifespan – from pre-birth, newborn babies and children to adults and aged-care. This will allow you to gain experience in specialist areas.

  • The key purpose of this role is to:

    • To practice in accordance with International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines

    • To assist in the delivery of pharmacy services under the supervision of a pharmacist

    • To aseptically compound clinical trial medications including cytotoxic medications and genetically modified organisms.

    • To carry out other tasks in accordance with the designated scope of practice for a pharmacy technician as required.

    • Work collaboratively with pharmacy team members and other staff in the delivery of pharmacy services.

    • To carry out other tasks in accordance with the designated scope of practice for pharmacy technician as required.

    • Rotate through multiple sections of the Pharmacy Department and across multiple Monash Health sites

    • Participate in weekend and late-shift rosters as required


  • Be familiar with, and practice in accordance with the ICHGCP guidelines, TGA Access to unapproved therapeutic goods.

  • Ensure that the ordering and receipt of trial medications, supportive care medications, standard of care medications and other consumables are done in a timely manner to ensure continuity of supply

  • Assist pharmacists in the aseptic preparation suite as needed, including cleaning of the aseptic suite, quality assurance activities and delivery of aseptically prepared items after successful completion of appropriate training and competency assessment.

  • Assist with the setup, maintenance and archiving of clinical trial study folders

  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation in accordance with sponsor/investigator protocol, complying with relevant legislation, guidelines, and standards.

About you


  • Certificate IV in Hospital Health Services Pharmacy Support course or equivalent

  • Other qualifications (e.g. Certificate III or IV in Community Pharmacy, overseas pharmacist qualification, graduate degree)

  • Working With Children Check

  • Minimum three years full time experience as a qualified pharmacy technician

  • Experience with aseptic and cytotoxic preparation

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent computer literacy skills and knowledge of information systems and technology.

  • Ability to work effectively in inter-professional teams

  • Commitment to continued professional development and education

  • Demonstrates initiative and reliability

  • Works well with peers showing flexibility and adaptability

  • Proactive and constructive approaches to problem solving for individual patients and service development.

  • Supervised technician students under placement
