Be part of Victoria's once-in-a generation energy transition!

As the State's ageing coal-fired power stations retire in the coming decades, they are being replaced with renewables. Our electricity system must also change to carry energy from where it is generated to where it is needed.

Shifting to renewable energy will deliver affordable, reliable and secure electricity. It will also help us deal with climate change by reducing our emissions.

To achieve these goals, VicGrid is coordinating the overarching planning and development of the following renewable energy zones (REZ) in Victoria. As part of this, VicGrid is building a new Project Delivery branch to support the development and delivery of transmission infrastructure projects (or non-network alternatives) within the REZs.

The Planning and Environment Senior Project Officer, Project Delivery is responsible for coordinating land use assessments associated with project feasibility and business case development, as well as helping to develop VicGrid's objectives in planning and environmental assessments and approvals processes for new transmission infrastructure projects to coordinate offshore wind in Victoria.

The position also supports the Planning and Environment Lead in integrating engagement and social licence principles into land use, planning and environmental assessments and considerations, consistent with the objectives of the preliminary Victorian Transmission Investment Framework (VTIF).

The Planning and Environment Senior Project Officer, Project Delivery is involved in liaising with project proponents, planning and environmental authorities and various key stakeholders and external advisers. The position requires demonstrated experience in the planning, heritage, and environmental approvals process for electricity transmission projects.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in law, land planning, or environmental fields.
  • Knowledge of the Victoria planning and approvals process and legislation and regulatory requirements, including the Environment Effect Act 1978¸ Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth), Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and Planning and Environment Act 1987.
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning and environmental approvals aspects of the development and delivery of major infrastructure projects in energy or other sectors will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience with land use assessments, mapping and transmission siting activities will be highly regarded
  • Experience in preparing planning, heritage, and environmental approvals documentation will be highly regarded.
  • Experience working within government planning and approvals bodies will be highly regarded.

These are fixed term positions available until 30 June 2025. The work location for these positions is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.

To be considered for these positions, applicants are encouraged to submit a resume and cover letter (no longer than 2 pages) summarising their skills and relevant experience.
