An exciting opportunity exists within the Small Business Victoria branch, for an experienced Policy Officer to join an energetic, agile team responsible for developing advice to Government to help Victoria's small businesses grow, invest, employ and export. 

The Small Business Policy team provides timely, clear and accurate policy advice to the Minister and Senior Executive on small businesses in Victoria. The team also undertakes research, maintains collaborative stakeholder relationships and uses co-design methodologies to inform policy advice and options. Effective links with other parts of DJPR and other State and Commonwealth government agencies are also maintained.

Reporting to the Senior Policy Officer, Small Business Policy, this position provides authoritative policy support and advice on small businesses in Victoria. To be successful in this role, you will need a strong understanding of policy concepts and experience in researching and developing policy recommendations to satisfy a complex group of stakeholders. You will enjoy working as part of a collegiate, agile team and have strong research, strategic thinking ability and analytical skills, excellent policy development, communication skills along with a sound understanding of the Victorian Government's industry development policies.

The key accountabilities of the role will include:

  • Provide coordination support and management of collaborative activities, including parliamentary questions, correspondence, briefs and cabinet responses.
  • Undertake research and develop policy options and advice for senior managers, in relation to a range of small business policy issues and the economic development of Victoria.
  • Support collaborative relationships across internal and external stakeholders to connect policy and initiatives that support Victorian economic development.
  • Prepare quality submissions, reports and briefs to the Department's Ministers and Executive on business and industry issues that provide options for decision making at the Ministerial and Executive level.
  • Negotiate, persuade and motivate internal and external stakeholders to support business objectives/initiatives.
  • Adopt and apply OH&S policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
