About us

Police Policy and Strategy (PPS) is responsible for the co-ordination, development, implementation and review of police-related policy in accordance with the Government's priorities. Through this work, PPS makes a contribution to improving community safety, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the justice system, and influencing improvements to policing.

PPS provides high-quality, independent and strategic policy, legal and financial advice to the Minister for Police and Emergency Services; the Secretary, Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS); the Deputy Secretary, Police, Community Safety & Communications; and the Executive Director, Police and Community Safety around these matters. It also manages key parts of the Minister's legislative program relating to the powers and governance of Victoria Police and regulatory responsibilities within the police portfolio.

About the role

As a Policy Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • preparing and reviewing project documentation including reports, plans, budgets and briefing materials for senior management and stakeholders
  • contributing effectively to building and maintaining a constructive culture within the branch
  • undertaking research, investigatory and analytical work and preparing relevant written communications
  • providing appropriate advice to the Minister and Departmental Executive on a range of policy and legislation matters relating to community safety and policing in the delivery of the Government's key commitments.

About you

As a Policy Officer, you will possess:

  • knowledge of and experience in the development of policy
  • a sound understanding of legislative processes
  • highly developed work organisation and time management skills with the capacity to meet strict timelines
  • a legal qualification and experience in legislative interpretation and legal drafting (desirable).

Keys to your success will be your highly developed communication, policy and problem solving skills including the ability to establish effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
