Postgraduate Registered Nurse - Operating Suite



  • Fixed Term Position

  • 12 months, 38 hours per week + ADO

Perioperative Services at the Royal Women’s Hospital is a comprehensive dedicated department incorporating all aspects involved in surgical intervention for patients. The following departments are included: Triage, Surgical Pre Admission Clinic, Booking Office, Anaesthetic Department, Acute Pain Services, Sterilizing Process Service, Operating Theatre and the Day Surgery Unit.


The Operating Suite provides surgical services 24 hours per day, seven days a week and consists of five operating theatres including one dedicated emergency theatre, two procedure rooms, and a ten bay PACU. Surgical specialties include obstetrics, gynaecology, urogynaecology, breast, and oncology.


Your contibution


As a Perioperative Nurse, you will be responsible for providing care to women and their families within a multidisciplinary team environment, working collegially with other health professionals, and participating in quality improvement projects. Perioperative nurses provide patient focused nursing care for women and babies in the anaesthetic, instrument, circulating and post anaesthetic recovery roles. The care provided is evidence based and directed to improving the surgical outcomes for women and their families.


Your duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:



  • Providing high quality nursing care

  • Promoting a friendly, respectful and supportive environment

  • Participating in quality assurance and clinical research studies


 About you


To be successful within this role you will need to:



  • Be a registered nurse with AHPRA

  • Have enrolled in a perioperative postgraduate course, preferably with Deakin University

  • Be flexible in working a rotating roster including weekends and night duty and on call

  • Have well developed interpersonal skills
