  • We are seeking 3 x Temporary part time registered nurses to join our Post Graduate program at Barwon Mental Health Drug and Alcohol Services in Geelong.

  • Each of the 3 positions will be at 64 hrs a fortnight for a 12 month contract until 30/01/2022

About the Role

We are currently seeking 3 (0.8) nurses to join our Post Graduate cohort for 2021. If you have you recently completed a Graduate year with a mental health rotation or you have experience as a  mental health nurse and are  looking to complete Post Graduate study, then this could be the perfect supported opportunity for you!

Post graduate nurses are offered 3 major rotations in clinical areas which span across the broader Geelong and South West region. The 3 new nurses in this position will commence/continue to undertake a Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing Practice at an approved Australian University alongside the existing 6 Post Graduate Nurses within MHDAS for 2021. During the 12 month program the Post Graduates will participate in 3 x 4 month rotations across Barwon Mental Health Drugs and Alcohol Services, working 64 hours per fortnight and undertaking Post graduate study.

The rotations may be any 3 combinations of the following 9 clinical areas:

  • Swanston Centre Inpatient Unit (2 Post Grads/Central Geelong)

  • Community Rehabilitation Facility (Belmont)

  • Corio Community Mental Health Team  (Corio)

  • Geelong West Community Mental Health Team (Belmont)

  • Bellarine Community Mental Health Team (Newcomb)

  • Surfcoast Community Mental Health Team (Torquay)

  • Colac Community Mental Health Team (Colac)

  • Aged Psychiatry Service (North Geelong)

You will be assisted in providing integrated and recovery oriented mental health care, drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug and alcohol issues, and their families in all rotations. The successful incumbents will be working with the multidisciplinary teams with support from a preceptor, a clinical supervisor and the MHDAS Education team.
