Outstanding candidates are encouraged to apply for positions now open at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre – a place where our normal days are extraordinary; as are the people we care for.

Your role in our future.

2-Year Industry Funded Position for a Full Time Postdoctoral Researcher

(Head and Neck Cancer Signalling Laboratory) Melbourne, Australia

The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is Australia’s only public hospital solely dedicated to cancer and one of an elite group of hospitals worldwide to have its own integrated cancer research program and laboratories. An excellent opportunity exists for an enthusiastic, motivated and skilled postdoctoral scientist to join the Head and Neck Cancer Signalling Laboratory.

The molecular heterogeneity of the head and neck cancer and the lack of laboratory models have hindered the development of improved treatment modalities for the patients. The Darido lab focuses on understanding how squamous cells of the head and neck tissues suppress tumour suppressor genes to gain a potent proliferative advantage and become cancerous. The lab is working towards identifying the cell of origin of this cancer, characterising its molecular identity, and finding ways for prevention and treatment of the cancer.

We are currently seeking a Full Time (1.0 EFT) Postdoctoral Researcher for a 2-year industry-funded position, with the opportunity for future extension subject to project funding.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and organised Scientist capable of working in an independent manner within an existing team. You will be self-driven, possess a love of learning and have a friendly and enthusiastic disposition. Outstanding organisational and record keeping skills, ability to conduct independent research, excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work with independence and collaboratively as part of a team are essential. Experience in mouse experimentation is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Cell Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Microbiology or Pathology. The position also presents unique opportunities for accelerated career progression such as publications in the highest impact journals within the field of cancer research.

Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience in line with the Allied Health Professionals (Victorian Public Health Sector) Single Interest Enterprise Agreement 2016-2020; classification scale 1RA6 to 1RA10.
