The Team

The position of Principal Adviser – Office for Women in Sport and Recreation forms a part of the Sport and Recreation Victoria branch within the Sport, Recreation and Racing group.

The Sport, Recreation and Racing Group

Sport, Recreation and Racing (SRR) is comprised of Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) and the Office of Racing.

Sport and Recreation Victoria

SRV aims to create greater sport and active recreation participation opportunities for all Victorians in order to maximise economic, social and health benefits and enhance Victoria's liveability.

This is achieved by supporting the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events and the Minister for Community Sport in the management of major sports facilities, administering grant programs that develop community facilities, strengthening the capacity of sport and recreation organisations, developing more active recreation and other innovative options to increase overall participation rates, reducing barriers to participation for specific population groups, supporting world-class sporting events and Victoria's high performance sport sector, and reinforcing the role that sport and active recreation plays in growing the Victorian economy, supporting jobs and building stronger communities.

The Role

Reporting to the Director, Office for Women in Sport and Recreation (OWSR), the Principal Adviser will provide high level strategic support and advice in responding to challenges and opportunities facing OWSR and its mandate to accelerate change towards a level playing field for women and girls in sport and active recreation in Victoria. This vital role will also lead OWSR's policy development to progress gender equality in sport and active recreation, and be responsible for nurturing OWSR's policy pipeline in line with the strategic priorities of the office and broader government policy.

Specifically, the role will be a key conduit and collaborator with department executives and other senior staff, the Minister's office, relevant policy and program areas, and select external stakeholders to ensure effective communication of OWSR's workplan, outcomes, policy development and delivery. This delivery will include an education and readiness roadmap for a current policy development project nearing implementation.

Working as part of OWSR's management team, this is a key role in fostering a culture of impact, innovation and inclusion within OWSR, and has the potential to be one of OWSR's most visible roles for government and industry stakeholders.
