Position Summary: 

The COVID Vaccination program is responsible for managing and coordinating the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccination to the state of Victoria. Operating as a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, the group will work closely with key internal and external stakeholders to deliver an effective and efficient immunisation campaign. This position will be responsible for providing authoritative public health advice, information and direction to departmental officers, management, key stakeholders, and members of the community around COVID-19 vaccine safety. This job offers an excellent opportunity for those wishing to develop skills in public health emergency management. The role involves developing, delivering, and improving investigation and control activities, particularly around acute incident response and ongoing liaison, training, and support around delivery of clinical advice. The role would be suitable for someone undertaking Advanced Training in Public Health Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of the Manager, Vaccine Safety, analyse information and prepare departmental responses and policy positions in relation to adverse events following immunisation.
  • Review and report on high priority vaccine safety issues, risks and trends and prepare and present comprehensive reports, ministerial briefs and cabinet and agency submissions on complex issues, sometimes with short lead times.
  • Work closely and provide advice to generate targeted policy advice and recommendations for the Manager, Vaccine Safety, senior management, and government based on comprehensive research.
  • Pro-actively build and maintain effective working relationships and facilitate the flow of information across the department and with key external stakeholders.
  • Represent the department on key stakeholder committees and groups concerned with achieving government and departmental objectives, lead relevant committee and governance processes.
  • Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.
  • Provide leadership and guidance based on advanced expertise.
  • Contribute advanced expertise and knowledge to benefit strategic planning and organisation/sector-wide outcomes.
