The Professional Practice Leader will promote and coach in the online resources and tools, including an online Koorie English teaching resource. They will further support literacy and numeracy learning of Koorie learners through facilitation of professional learning in Koorie English for teachers in Victorian government schools by face to face and virtual training platforms. They will also provide advice across other corporate areas of the Department developing policy and curriculum for Victorian schools. The Professional Practice Leader will be an experienced teacher with a comprehensive knowledge of literacy and numeracy teaching and learning in the context of the Victorian Curriculum F-10 and an understanding of the factors which impact the engagement, inclusion and achievement of Koorie students.

Literacy and Numeracy are foundational skills which are critical for lifelong learning and employment. The purpose of this role is to support schools to improve overall learning outcomes for Koorie students by strengthening schools' capacity to understand and address the specific learning needs of Koorie students in literacy and numeracy.

 The work of this role supports key outputs of the Excellence and Equity in Literacy and Numeracy Initiative, established in 2018. The Professional Practice Leader will provide teachers and schools with advice and strategies to improve practice in literacy and numeracy teaching for Koorie students and to embed these practices into teaching across the disciplines. The Professional Practice Leader will promote and coach in the online resources and tools, including an online Koorie English teaching resource. They will further support literacy and numeracy learning of Koorie learners through facilitation of professional learning in Koorie English for teachers in Victorian government schools by face to face and virtual training platforms. Close partnerships across the Division, the Department (including central, regional, and schools staff) and engagement with the Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated and other relevant education stakeholders are crucial to this work. The work will be guided by a working group and will be reported on to a Project Control Board.

 The Professional Practice Leader will have the capacity to monitor progress of the work and write clear and comprehensive briefings and reports. The role involves ongoing project management, including planning, scheduling, engaging and monitoring contractors, stakeholder management and development of a communications plan.
