About the role


An opportunity exists for an experienced senior leader for the position of Program Director Pathology in one of the largest public health services in Victoria. In this role you will be responsible for the professional, scientific, advisory, organisational, administrative and educational matters relevant to the services offered by all medical laboratories across Eastern Health.


Whilst reporting to the Executive Director Clinical Operations – Acute and Aged Medicine, Specialty Medicine and Ambulatory Care, the position will work closely with the Executive and senior medical teams to ensure the quality of Pathology Services meets all requirements and expectations and is undertaken in the most cost effective way possible.


This is a senior leadership role at Eastern Health.


About you


To be successful in this role you will possess:



  • Have a minimum of 10 years extensive operational experience in medical laboratory operations, ideally within a hospital environment.

  • Post-graduate qualifications in business management or health services management.

  • Sound knowledge of National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) standards relating to pathology laboratories and NATA Accreditation requirements for assessment of same.

  • Sound knowledge of relevant performance frameworks, policies and targets pertaining to the public health sector in Victoria.

  • Demonstrated negotiation and advocacy skills as well as extensive conflict resolution experience.

  • Highly developed ability in generating and maintaining collaborative partnerships with stakeholders, both internal and external, to generate and enhance system developments, policy and planning.

  • Highly developed communication skills – written and verbal.

  • Demonstrated ability in policy development, service development and planning.

  • Demonstrated experience in providing strategic leadership and influence.

  • Demonstrated experience in human resources management within a large multidisciplinary professional environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering sound financial and budget performance.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated project management experience.

  • Advanced computer ability required.

  • Creative problem solving and decision making skills.
