An exciting opportunity exists to join the diverse and dynamic International Education Division (IED) in the Department of Education and Training (the Department) as the Travel Exemptions and Quarantine Project Officer. You will be a key member of a small team responsible for implementing a cross-sectoral support plan for international students enrolled at Victorian government and non-government schools. The work of this role will administratively aid the end-to-end process of supporting international students to return to Victoria including the provision of off-shore supports while students are awaiting their return.

The successful candidate will be able to maintain high levels of motivation delivering this complex project, operating well under a tight timeframes and collaborating with multiple internal and external stakeholders.

Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience as a Project Officer or similar role
  • Strong in project management skills
  • Current Working with Children Check or be willing to obtain one


  • An understanding of the international student sector
  • An understanding of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (Cth) and Education Training and Reform Act 2006 (Vic)
  • Fluency in a language other than English

About the International Education Division

A globally oriented education system is crucial to ensuring that our young people have the skills they need to succeed in an increasingly inter-connected world and workplace. The IED is proudly supporting that mission in a number of ways. Firstly, IED is responsible for administering the Department's International Student Program (ISP) for fee-paying international students who attend Victorian government primary and secondary schools. IED is also responsible for:

  • Advocacy and strategic communications regarding Global Learning and Engagement within the Department of Education and Training, across the education system and at a national level, including through active social media channels.
  • Facilitating international engagement activities like Ministerial travel and receiving international delegations.
  • Delivering a suite of Global Learning and Engagement initiatives aimed at improving the capabilities, practice and global understanding of students, teachers, school leaders and school communities.

In addition to the above ongoing work, IED is also currently working on the following projects due to coronavirus (COVID-19):

  • Facilitating the delivery of offshore learning to international students who have been unable to return to Victoria.
  • Determining a process for the safe return of school-aged international students while COVID-19 in an ongoing concern.
