Project Officer, Aboriginal Programs

Recognising that access to formal Confirmation of Aboriginality documents can occasionally be problematic, an alternative process can be discussed.

The Role

This position will provide support to the team by contributing to the design and delivery of key initiatives. The position will engage with both Aboriginal communities, and work across government agencies to increase access and maximise opportunities for Aboriginal Victorians to participate in sport and active recreation. The role will deliver administration and support partnerships.

SRV, within the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions, manages several investment programs that seek to increase participation in community sport and recreation by maximising the delivery of outcomes most aligned to Victorian Government objectives and those within Active Victoria. 

The position is in the Aboriginal Programs Team (APT) and will work across the Policy and Equity Team in Sport, Tourism and Events/Sport and Recreation Victoria.

Key accountabiltiies:

  1. Administrative support to the Manager, Aboriginal Programs to assist with projects of the APT including Partnership and Self-Determination work.
  2. Support the Aboriginal Programs team in the development and delivery of Aboriginal sport and recreation programs through the administration of the Aboriginal Sporting Participation Grant Program. Develop material to promote the Aboriginal Programs (including the grant program and partnership) to key stakeholders including internal capacity building activities.
  3. Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including Aboriginal organisations and community) through a professional and collaborative approach to support development opportunities and pathways for Aboriginal people.

The Team

The position of Project Officer, Aboriginal Programs forms a part of the Sport and Recreation Victoria  within the Sport, Tourism and Events group.

Sport, Tourism and Events (STE) is comprised of Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) and Tourism and Events (T&E). SRV aims to create greater sport and active recreation participation opportunities for all Victorians in order to maximise economic, social and health benefits and enhance Victoria's liveability.

  • Knowledgeable of Victorian Aboriginal people and their culture and sensitive to their needs?
  • Able to prepare reports, notes and accurate responses to correspondence?
  • Able to communicate in a sensitive and respectful manner with Aboriginal people, key stakeholders and all levels of management?
