  • Be a part of flagship $50m+ government project
  • Support the planning, strategic development and policy delivery of the strategic fuel breaks program
  • Location: Negotiable-Flexible (statewide) Influence and support the delivery of the Strategic Fuel Breaks program within the regions and ensure the DELWP project management framework is used to drive and facilitate successful delivery.

The Strategic Fuel Breaks and Mechanical works program received significant investment that will support community and asset protection and provide strategic advantage for planned burning and fire control operations in the context of a rapidly changing climate.

The Project Officer - Strategic Planning and Policy within the Strategic Fuel Breaks and Mechanical works program will support the planning and delivery of priority strategic fuel break construction (or upgrade) and associated mechanical works across the region.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience.
  • An appropriate qualification in environmental science, natural resource management, or approved equivalent is desirable.
  • Knowledge on the capabilities of plant and equipment requirements to undertake bushfire mitigation works is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a project, including exceptional communication skills, managing multiple contractors and meeting community expectations.

This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2022. The successful applicant may request to work from any DELWP office location, subject to negotiation and COVID-Safe transitional arrangements.

The departmentplays a major role in Victoria's emergency response activities, through an all-hazards, all-emergencies approach. Staff undertaking these roles have been quarantined from performing emergency management roles and participation in planned burning operations.
