The Department of Transport and Planning oversees key planning, transport and land use policy decisions and management across the State. Prosecution Support Officers are responsible for coordinating and carrying out all the administrative processes associated with the prosecution of summary offences under relevant legislation and associated regulations – the primary focus of the role is the production of prosecution documents

Transport Regulatory Operations (TRO) is within Business Operations and Improvement and works closely with many stakeholders and agencies to deliver:

  • A fairer fare enforcement system promoting compliance;
  • Authorised officer regulation and governance;
  • Forensic evidence – Network CCTV;
  • Clearway enforcement system promoting compliance; and
  • Accident Towing Industry complaint investigations.

About the Role

Prosecution Support Officers are responsible for coordinating and carrying out all the administrative processes associated with the prosecution of summary offences under relevant legislation and associated regulations – the primary focus of the role is the production of prosecution documents.

Position Outcomes

  • Act as the ‘nominal informant' in the prosecution process by preparing, filing and distributing prosecution documents (including charge sheets and summonses, affidavits of service, and preliminary briefs).
  • Use databases to collect relevant information/evidence to affect the service of prosecution documents (including giving evidence on this process, if required).
  • Prepare all required documentation in respect of the Children and Young Persons Infringement System (CAYPINS) processes, in the Children's Court of Victoria, within the specified timeframes.
  • Administer the scheduling of matters at court and liaise with members of the Magistrates' and Children's court registries, as required.
  • Provide assistance or support to the prosecutors, as required (without limitation, this includes the preparation of file notes, full briefs and certificates of evidence.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of processes to maximise the effectiveness and efficiency of all administrative duties in line with legislation, processes and policies


The ideal candidate will possess strong organisational skills and will be used to utilising their interpersonal skills to communicate effectively to a wide range of stakeholders.
An effective team player you will also have highly developed administrative and problem solving skills that will compliment a sound understanding or ability to understand various victorian transport an road safety Acts.

On a personal level the candidate will respond and accept changing priorities without discomfort.

Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory

  • Driver Licence.

Desirable

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or legal/court experience would be well highly regarded.
