About Women’s Mental Health Service located within the Social Model for Women's Health

Women’s Mental Health is a key component of any woman’s Health and Wellbeing. Our Mental Health Service is a  Consultation Liaison Service that supports women who present to our hospital for clinical care relating to maternity, gynaecological /obstetrician /oncology services

Women’s Mental Health Service is located within an innovative and new division within the Women’s Hospital. The Social Model of Health Division at the Women’s has responsibility for ensuring the hospital’s clinical and social support services are coordinated, aligned and leveraged to provide wrap around care for the women who need it most.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to develop and implement a triage system that is the specialist front door for the Women’s Mental Health Service in partnership with Social Work.

You will be able to:

  • Draw upon your considerable psychiatric nursing experience and interpersonal skills in designing a front door ( through triage) that facilitates easy access to critical mental health services our patients will benefit from.

  • Collaboratively assist midwives and nurses in the development and implementation of appropriate care plans for women with behavioural / mental health needs.

  • Work together with the other members of the mental health team to ensure that services are provided to meet women’s mental health needs in a timely fashion.

  • Provide capacity building to other non -mental health streams within the Social Model of Women’s Health on risk assessments and mental state examinations

About You

You are a Senior Mental Health Nurse who preferably holds a Masters in Mental Health Nursing with well-developed engagement, communication and collaboration skills.

You are able to demonstrate a sound understanding of mental health clinical assessment and practice. You also possess proven leadership qualities, have a passion for mental health and specifically the value of a consultation liaison psychiatry service to patients, in a tertiary hospital. In addition to this you also could bring the following to the role:

  • Commitment to quality clinical care and sound clinical skills

  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team

  • Ability to show initiative and work independently

  • Experience developing new processes and procedures that will be necessary in designing a new triage system.

What You Need:

  • Relevant Post Graduate qualification as per the position description 

  • Demonstrated experience in Public Mental Health Nursing as per the position description

  • Current AHPRA registration
