The Clinical Governance Division, led by the CMO, has a focus on strengthening our clinical governance capability and functions. The Division is tasked with providing high quality clinical governance support and advice both internally and supporting our Regional Partner Health Services. The CMO and the team in this division will work towards strengthening organisation wide systems and processes to ensure our services provided to our community are safe and of a high quality. This will assist in providing support and advice to our regional partners in line with Bendigo Health’s leadership role with regard to the delivery of excellent care, every time, every person.



This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a newly developed Unit with the Public Health Officers – Contact tracers playing a vital role within the unit as they work to establish acquisition links and identify close contacts of known cases COVID-19.



About the position


The Public Health Officer (PHO) must apply motivational interviewing techniques and demonstrate emotional intelligence, responsiveness, flexibility and cultural competence. All communication with consumers and other agencies must adhere to relevant communicable disease and control and public health policy.



The Contact Tracer may also be responsible for providing health monitoring, welfare support and public health education to people at risk of severe COVID-19 illness in accordance with the COVID-19 Care Pathways. Clear communication to other agencies providing support to people with low health risks or high social risk is essential to facilitate adherence to public health orders.

About you


Please address the following key selection criteria to apply.



  • Graduate qualification in a health or other relevant field

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to interact in an empathetic and non-judgmental manner with culturally diverse populations and persons experiencing a wide range of social conditions

  • Ability to work a rotating roster, 7 days a week, morning and afternoon shifts as part of a surge response as required

  • Experience conducting telephone-based or in-person interviews and collecting and entering data

  • Previous experience in COVID 19 response teams and familiarity with DHHS clinical reporting platforms and information systems would be an advantage
