Quality Engineer I Footscray (some hybrid arrangements may apply) I $105,479 (plus 11% superannuation)

We're always developing exciting new products. We've got a digital wallet, with a digital driver licence in pilot phase, and there's a growing number of licences, certificates and other government-issued credentials.

About the role

Service Victoria is now focused on building the future organisation and the appropriate IT organisation structure and capability that will allow the implemented solutions to be maintained, supported and expanded on an on-going basis. You will also have a chance to work on continuously improving our service offering by bringing in structured improvements based on data analytics and insights from customer experience officers. 

Key responsibilities

  1. Champions quality in delivery teams and across the wider technology group
  2. Develops and implements manual and automated testing strategies and solutions
  3. Works with delivery leads and managers to define quality standards
  4. Creates comprehensive and well structured test plans and test cases
  5. Estimates, prioritises and coordinates quality testing activities
  6. Designs and implements automated tests
  7. Debugs and defines corrective actions
  8. Tracks quality metrics
  9. Applies both automated and manual testing techniques appropriately
  10. Investigates product quality and suggests improvements to increase customer satisfaction
  11. Help to develops quality solutions to challenging and complex product requirements.
  12. Contributes to the technology strategy providing guidance around testing and deployment best practice
  13. Contributes to both technical decisions and business requirements
  14. Participates in a culture of continual improvement and introspection and strives to constantly improve within the team
  15. Proactively keeps up to date with relevant technology, trends, developments, and advancements

Key selection criteria

  1. Proven work experience in software development and software quality assurance
  2. Demonstrated ability in utilising contemporary automated testing frameworks and tools to meet testing objectives
  3. Strong knowledge of QA methodologies and processes
  4. Experience in writing clear, concise test plans and test cases
  5. Hands on experience with both black and white box testing
  6. Intermediate coding ability with a high capability in writing test scripts
  7. Experience working in Agile delivery
  8. Experience with performance and/or security testing is a plus
  9. A passion for keeping up to date with testing trends
  10. A keen attention to detail and passion for great user experiences
  11. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  12. Great communication and ability to build effective professional relationships with business team leaders, and team members
  13. Desire to learn from others and constantly improve your craft
  14. A well-developed sense of empathy for your customers, both internal and external

Desired Experience/Qualifications 

  • 2+ years of experience in quality engineering, quality assurance or a similar role
  • Experience coding and using QA software tools and processes
  • Degree in computer science, engineering or related subject
  • Experience working in an Agile delivery methodology
  • Experience working with task management tools such as JIRA
