About the role

Working within the award-winning Industry Capability and Inclusion team, and reporting to the Director, Industry Capability and Inclusion, you will be responsible for the smooth running and operations management of the Rail Academy training centre in Newport. Rail Academy is a one-of-a-kind offering – providing technical and safety training and education spaces that are available for hire to training providers and industry. This training centre supports training and development of rail industry workers needed for rail projects underway across Victoria, not just at LXRP. This is a critical and important position that will see you interfacing with a number of different businesses, departments and stakeholders.

On any given day you might find yourself:

  • Being the first point of contact for internal and external customers seeking support and information
  • Delivering customer service and develop relevant stakeholder engagement
  • Leading, motivating, coaching, and upskilling a small team; and all the other things that come with being an effective senior leader
  • Providing guidance and safety leadership for activities being conducted on site – this includes assessing and mitigating risks, managing contractors on site, and training activities
  • Carrying out daily site inspections and complete associated reports
  • Overseeing a range of maintenance activities across electrical, plumbing and equipment; as well as minor works and building maintenance to ensure compliance, workplace health and safety, and customer comfort
  • Identifying opportunities for innovations sustainability enhancements and facility improvements

This role is a 3-year fixed – term contract, paying between $124,033 - $165,983 + superannuation.

The Rail Academy Newport remains operational during COVID lockdown restrictions, and you will be required to work on-site during this time. Working hours are Mon – Fri, and the facility is open 7.30am – 4.30pm every day. 

About you

You're an experienced Facilities Manager with a strong focus on safety management, and who combines excellence in leadership whilst also working as part of a broader team. You may have experience within compliance, rail/infrastructure, construction or workplace health and safety.

We work in an ever-changing environment, and as such you will need to have excellent organisation and time management skills to ensure you can manage resources effectively and adapt to unprecedented change.

Some things we'd like you to have:

  • Experience in managing minor works, and related projects
  • Some sort of rail or transport experience – including service delivery, operational, assets/infrastructure or customer service
  • Train Track Safety Awareness, a valid White Card and First Aid qualifications are highly desired
  • Ability to follow standards and procedures, and ensure activities are conducted in compliance with relevant requirements
  • Ability to maintain and build relationships with clients across a range of client stakeholders – including engaging with trainers and assessors accessing the facility throughout the day
  • Having a Cert IV in Workplace Health and Safety would be highly desirable, but okay if you don't have it

Our ICI team deliver ‘Training for the Future' - a rail industry skills program to prepare Australians to deliver an unprecedented amount of work on the Melbourne rail network over the next ten years and beyond. This program of works will result in a new generation of rail talent for Victoria, providing new opportunities to re-skill people with relevant experience from industries in decline, as well as training people from disadvantaged communities and providing a bespoke training facility suitable for critical safety training in a true working environment.
