Parks Victoria are looking for an enthusiastic and outgoing Park Ranger to help create safe and memorable visitor experiences in Grampians National Park (Gariwerd)

  • Work in one of Victoria's most popular National Parks, protected for its significant natural and cultural values

  • Enjoy the opportunity to develop skills and experience in park management across a range of functions including environment and asset management, culture and heritage protection, visitor safety management, customer service, the planning and delivery of information, interpretation and education (IIE) programs and support to commercial and capital projects, fire and emergency, planned burning and enforcement programs.

About the role

The Ranger V&C works under the direction of Team Leader (Visitors and Community) and the Area Chief Ranger Grampians Gariwerd. It plays a critical role in the provision of timely and accurate customer service and park communication. It supports the planning and delivery of information, interpretation, education (II&E) programs, commercial and tourism activities and park operations programs. The ranger utilises skills in managing small projects and budgets, writing, signage, mapping, and spatial products and regularly undertakes field-based tasks to support the broader team.

The role is critical for the timely dissemination of information around park operations such as park closures, planned burning, fire and other park management activities. It works closely with Brambuk the National Park and Cultural Centre and Visitor Information Centre networks.

We're looking for someone with the following skills and experience:

  • Desirable - Certificate or Diploma in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management 
  • Desirable - Qualifications or experience in communications, engagement, heritage interpretation, education, recreation.
  • Relevant field experience including 4x4 accreditations, chainsaw trim and cross cut, spatial skills and knowledge in Arc GIS or similar, GPS and navigation.
  • Demonstrated experience in self-management and supervisory skills.
  • The incumbent must be available to work weekends and public holidays if required.
