The Western Basalt District comprises a diversity of cultural and environmental assets including the Brisbane Ranges National Park, Lerderderg and Werribee Gorge State Parks, You Yangs Regional Park, Steiglitz Historic Park, Serendip Sanctuary, Lake Connewarre State Game Reserve, Mt Buangor State Park, Enfield State Park, Woowookarung Regional Park, Hepburn Regional Park and numerous other reserves. The District manages over 50,000 hectares with over 900,000 visitors per year, offering a range of passive and active recreational opportunities in diverse settings.

About the role and your responsibilities:  

Parks Victoria are recruiting to two positions within the Western Basalt District located at Creswick. The positions include a Ranger (Fixed Term until September 2021) and a Ranger Field Services (Fixed Term until November 2021).

As a Ranger, your primary focus is to plan for, and deliver, in park services as directed by the Manager to enable efficient and effective delivery at a district level in accordance with the Regional Action Plan. You will undertake activities requiring a level of environmental and service expertise and you will be accountable for personal performance. This includes assisting in the delivery, planning and resource management in accordance with Parks Victoria's policies, procedures and objectives.

As a Ranger (Field Services), you will deliver in park services as directed by the Manager to enable efficient and effective delivery at a district level in accordance with the Regional Action Plan. The position will be accountable for the delivery of on the ground works including, but not limited to, maintenance of assets, infrastructure, and facilities; and the field delivery of environmental projects. You will also be adaptable to on the ground service requirements in order to ensure superior park management services are achieved at all times.  

To be successful for this role you will need:

  • A tertiary qualification in Certificate or Diploma in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management and/or equivalent experience in a similar field is preferable.
  • Demonstrated practical skills in the maintenance and operation of machinery, small equipment and tools and the maintenance and construction of a range of park facilities, including, signs, campgrounds, fences and walking tracks. (Ranger Field Services)
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A current employee Working with Children Check
