Dandenong EPS Engage Team

The Dandenong Emergency Psychiatry Service (EPS) is introducing a new interprofessional team which brings together clinicians from Mental health AOD and lived experience to provide speacilised and integrated care to patients presenting to the ED with high acuity mental health and complex psychosocial needs. This service is called the ENGAGE team and is located in the emergency department, the team will provide a seven day a week, extended hours service.

One key function of the team is the Rapid Response Mental Health Clinician. The Rapid Response Clinicians will lead the co-ordination and streaming of patients identified as requiring a behavioural health response in order to facilitate appropriate and timely assessment and treatment. The rapid rsponse team provides early assessment of patients by senior clinicians to enhance early decsion making, timely investigation, treament and disposition decisions to improve patient experience and length of stay.

About The Role

The Rapid Response clinician plays an integral role in the provision of rapid response upfront senior decision making for patients presenting with mental health and AOD needs to guide priorities and referral within the EPS model of care.  As a senior clinician, you will be responsible for providing clinical leadership and expertise to influence quality of care within EPS, coordinating the patient journey and nominating appropriate pathways of care. You will work in partnership and collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary Engage team, Mental Health program, AOD services, allied health and lived experience workforce.   
The Rapid Response clinician (RPN4) role presents a fantastic opportunity to join a new team implementing an enhanced model of care. You will also 

  • Provide high level leadership, clinical advice and advocacy for patients presenting in crisis with mental health, AOD and/or psychosocial needs;
  • Perform Emergency Department-based mental health and AOD assessments of people including comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning;
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with multiple stakeholders (including NOK, carers, family and/or nominated persons, multidisciplinary team and community agencies).
