Regional Manager - Metropolitan, Earth Resources Regulation

The position of Regional Manager - Metropolitan, within Earth Resources Regulation, forms a part of the Resources branch within the Rural and Regional Victoria Group. The Rural and Regional Victoria Group works with councils, industry and businesses and primary produces to improve liveability and drive sustainable economic growth in rural and regional communities. The Resources Branch develops policy, programs and regulation to enable investment and generate jobs through the sustainable development of the State's earth resources, including extractives, minerals and petroleum. 

The Regional Manager- Metropolitan is responsible for establishing and delivering the Metropolitan regions' compliance program for mines and quarries and other earth resources activities, in a manner that is commensurate with statutory requirements, proportionate to assessed risks and delivered consistently and proactively across the Metropolitan district.

Reporting to the Director Regulatory Compliance, the key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Lead the Metro Region's regulatory compliance team to ensure licensee compliance with the regulatory framework using education and graded enforcement.
  • Planning, coordinating and delivering compliance operations across the Metropolitan Region on assessed risks and in coordination with co-regulators
  • Carry out the functions of an Inspector as delegated under all acts regulated by Earth Resources Regulation.
  • Drive the continual improvement of operational policies and procedures; industry performance standards and guidelines; and programs to promote adoption of an effective compliance and environmental management systems by the minerals and extractive industries.
  • Lead and manage the Metro region's compliance staff through training, and development in line with organisational values and goals and role model expected behaviours of a modern regulator within a multi-disciplinary organisation and sector.
