We have several exciting opportunities for suitably qualified Registered Midwives (RN/RM & RM) in our Maternity/Special Care Nursery and Gynaecology Unit. The successful applicant will be required to work on a 24/7 rotational roster. Shifts patterns also include a trial of 12 hour shifts on an opt in basis. We have permanent part time, full time and casual positions available with hours negotiated upon appointment. We also have fixed term opportunities with the potential for contract review to cover staff on parental leave.

Our Maternity service provides pregnancy care to up to 1000 women and their families per year. Staff have the ability to rotate throughout the service on a daily basis to optimise continuity of care, and working within your full scope of practice. Staff are supported by our education team with one-on-one learning, in-service education and tailored learning as necessary.We offer a friendly, team focused work environment, comprehensive orientation to the department and organisation, in house salary packaging and free car parking. Our preferred candidate will have:

  • Current registration with AHPRA
  • Demonstrated sound level of midwifery skills and works within safe practice principles
  • Understanding of and commitment to the Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI)
  • Understanding of current midwifery practice, including the Department of Health’s Victorian Maternity and Newborn Services Framework
  • Commitment to flexibility and innovation in practice including an evidence-based approach to care
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Demonstrated written and computer skills at the level required to fulfil the role

IMPORTANT: All staff employed in the healthcare sector are required to be fully (3 doses) vaccinated for COVID-19 (unless a valid exemption applies). Evidence of vaccination (or exemption) will be required to be provided prior to commencement.

All appointments with the West Gippsland Healthcare Group are subject to the satisfactory return of professional reference checks, a National Police Record Clearance and a valid Employee Working with Children Check.  All employees must hold current entitlement to work within Australia.  A six month probationary period applies to all new appointments.
