The Division of Surgery, Anaesthesia & Procedural Medicine (SAPM)

SAPM is responsible for the management and coordination of surgery; Colorectal, Hepatobilary, Liver and Intestinal transplantation, Upper Gastrointestinal, Cardiac, Thoracic, Orthopaedic, Plastic, Maxillo Facial, ENT, and Urology; gastroenterology and cardiology services. Emergency and elective procedures are delivered to 35,000 patients per year across two sites, in 19 operating theatres, two procedure rooms, four endoscopy suites and two catheter laboratories.

  • Orthopaedic and Plastics Reconstructive surgery- Ward 8 North
  • Austin Campus
  • Permanent Full time and Part-time hours available- 160hrs/per week

8 North is a 32 bed ward consisting of acute and elective patients specialising in Orthopaedic and Plastics Reconstructive surgery, and Spinal fractures,. The Orthopaedic unit manages a wide variety of acute and elective bone related injuries including degenerative changes and traumatic fractures/injuries which require surgical or non-surgical intervention.

  • Liver Transplantation, Gastroenterology and Hepatopancreatobiliary surgery- Ward 8 West

  • Permanent Full time and Part-time hours available- 96hrs/per week

Ward 8 West is a 32-bedgeneral surgery, liver transplant, intestinal transplant, and gastroenterology ward. Our general surgical unit provides expertise in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery. This patient population comes from approximately 75% Emergency surgery and the critical care area’s which creates an acute and dynamic working environment. The gastroenterology unit cares for those with advanced and complex liver disease, as well as those with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

  • Surgery and Endoscopy Centre (SAEC) 
  • Austin Campus 
  • Permanent Full time/Part-time hours available- 122hrs/per week 

The Surgery and Endoscopy Centre (SAEC) is located across two sites. Day Surgery, DOSA and Endoscopy are managed on level 2 , Austin Tower, Monday to Friday.  Sixteen short stay beds facilitate the care of short stay surgery patients up to 48 hours, this service is located on 9 West and is a 24-hour, seven-day service.

As an Austin Health Nurse you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of evidence-based nursing care in designated medical specialties, in order to optimize health outcomes for the community.
