Creating exceptional experiences is at the heart of everything we do for our patients, their families, and our people across our specialised services within maternity, neonatal and women’s health.
Neonatal Services at The Women’s Hospital, Melbourne has up to 62 beds, including neonatal intensive care and special care pods. It is one of the largest nurseries in Australia.
As a state-wide leader in neonatal services, each year we care for up to 2000 premature and unwell babies from across Victoria in our Neonatal intensive care and special care nursery. These babies may be premature or unwell full-term infants with a range of neonatal conditions such as preterm birth congenital anomalies, respiratory disease, birth trauma, peri partum hypoxic, brain injury and metabolic disorders.
The neonatal team provides a family centred care approach and our model of care is centred on keeping mothers and babies together. Families are encouraged to engage with the care of their baby. Developmental care is also an important factor in how we care for these vulnerable and sick babies.
The unit also has a key role in providing education and training for local, national and international health professionals as well as an extensive research program.
