Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.


An exciting oppurtunity exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Registered Nurse in our Surgical and Procedural Medicine department.


Ward 8 West is a32 bed general surgery, liver transplant, intestinal transplant and gastroenterology ward. Our general surgical unit provides expertise inhepatopancreatobiliary surgery. This patient population comes from approximately 75% Emergency surgery and the critical care area’s which creates an acute and dynamic working environment.  The gastroenterology unit cares for those with advanced and complex liver disease, as well as those with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. TPN and fistula management is also a key part of care provided on 8 West. The Victorian Liver Transplant Unit provides liver transplantation services for all of Victoria, Tasmania, and parts of Southern New South Wales and performed Australia’s first intestinal transplant in 2010.




Essential Knowledge and skills:



  • Registered Nurse Division 1 (General) AHPRA

  • Acute Nursing experience

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve in a variety of situations

  • Ability to work autonomously and within a multidisciplinary environment

  • Up to date first line emergency skills including BLS and appropriate rapid assessment and decision making to manage an acutely unwell patient

  • Ability to be flexible and work as part of a dynamic team
