About the Emergency Department:

The Emergency Department services approximately 90,000 patients per year, about 20% of whom are paediatric patients. The inpatient admission rate is of the order of 33%. The Emergency Department aims to assess, manage and admit patients from a broad range of specialities, within the targets set by the Emergency Services Enhancement Programme of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).  This service will be delivered in a timely, compassionate and appropriate manner, enhanced through teaching, research and the development of new technologies and processes. The Short Stay Unit is a 20-bed unit which is closely associated with, and staffed by, the Emergency Department nursing pool. Patients admitted to Short Stay usually have a rapidly reversible condition which either requires a short period of treatment or observation, where the likelihood of safe discharge can occur in a 24 period. There are non COVID and SCOVID areas

About the role:

A regular day will see you:

  • working in a variety of areas including resuscitation and Triage
  • Caring for a full range of presentations, both adult and paediatric
  • Working with a multidisciplinary team

About you:

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • qualifications as a Registered Nurse, Division 1 [General] Nurses Board of Victoria
  • Post Graduate qualifications in Emergency/ Critical Care Nursing,   
  • Demonstrated experience in Emergency Nursing (adult and paeditric), with ability to work in resuscitation and Triage areas.
  • Commitment to quality, best practise and environmental safety
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Commitment to further self-development and education
  • Willingness to work in all areas of the Emergency Department/Short Stay Unit/ DASS Unit/ paediatrics, as required.
  • Ability to work a flexible 24/7 roster to meet service needs
