About the facility 

Barwon health is the major regional health provider for the Barwon South West region. It is Victoria’s largest regional health service with one of the busiest hospitals in the state, University Hospital. We serve over 500,000 people through the efforts of over 8,000 staff and more than 1000 volunteers. We provide care at all stages or life and circumstance through a wide range of services from emergency and acute to mental health, primary care, community services, aged care, and subacute/rehabilitation. Care is provided to the community through over 28 key locations throughout the region.

Heath Wing 6 is a 32 bed surgical unit who specialises in lower GI, upper GI and urology surgeries. It is an extension of Barwon Health’s operating services which comprises of 10 operating theatres in the main complex and 2 theatres and an endoscopy room in the day procedure centre, operating services perform approximately 22,000 procedures per year across both areas.

About the role 

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the provision of patient, client and resident focused holistic nursing care to those assigned to him/her, in order to achieve desired clinical outcomes.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Delivery of consumer-centred care that meets best practice standards and in line with Barwon Health requirements
  • Facilitation of service coordination where possible to ensure broader health and well-being issues are supported
  • Participate in improving care activities and service redesign initiatives
  • Establishing and maintaining effective communication within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure patients receive quality ongoing care
