Registered Nurse – RCH Post Graduate Mental Health Nurse Program 2020



Employment: Full time/part time (0.8EFT), fixed term for 12 months


Salary:            $65,275.60 to $87,282.00 per annum


Location:        Parkville – Hub of the medical precinct & leading Children’s hospital

The Department:


The RCH Mental Health department comprises of a wide range of community and hospital based specialty services.



The Banksia ward is a 16 bed adolescent inpatient ward at the Royal Children’s Hospital that delivers recovery focused mental health care to consumers aged 13 to 18 years of age. The Banksia ward strives to deliver excellent, evidence based mental health care in the least restrictive environment. This includes delivering timely care, with a focus on building family and community supports that aid a safe discharge for the young person. We have a strong team focus and supportive ward culture that ensures a great environment to develop as a professional and grow as a nurse.



The Position/s:


We are seeking enthusiastic Registered Nurses with a demonstrated interest in Mental Health Nursing, for example, RNs who have 12 months experience in mental health following the completion of a Graduate year, to join the RCH Post Graduate Mental Health Nursing Program in 2020.



Our program incorporates a number of Post Graduate positions within the Banksia ward and also includes one (1) position based within the RCH MH department’s Community/Specialist teams.



You will be working in a supportive and dynamic learning environment alongside experienced Mental Health nurses and clinicians as part of a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) at the RCH until February 2021.



To be successful in this role you will have:



  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record/Professional Practice Portfolio (PPP)

  • Recent clinical experience within an acute mental health care setting, preferably in child and adolescent or youth mental health (desirable)

  • Completion of a Graduate Mental Health Nurse Program (desirable)

  • Enrolled in an approved course of study that leads to a Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing
