About the service:

The Royal Melbourne Hospital surgical wards are seeking highly motivated Registered Nurses to join our team. Surgical wards at RMH care for a wide range of patients with elective and emergency surgical care needs in both the pre and post-operative phase.  We specialise in surgical care for neurosurgery, cardiac, trauma, orthopaedic and plastic surgery to name a few. Joining our exciting world of specialist areas will give you exposure to education opportunities, speciality courses, post graduate studies all the way to master level, leadership and management or advanced practice nursing courses.

What you'll need to succeed in any of our vacancies:

3SW are looking for a passionate registered nurse wanting to develop their skills in caring for elective and emergency colorectal and hepatobiliary specialty surgical patients.

3SW is a 20 bed acute surgical ward specialising in caring for patients from elective surgeries but also emergency trauma cases. The surgical patients on 3SW provide an opportunity to learn about critically unwell patients in a supportive environment. Our educators and senior nurses are available to support as well as maximise your learning opportunity. You will gain insight into caring for trauma patients including the opportunity to learn about stomal therapy.


To be successful for this role you will have:

Experience in the acute healthcare sector

7 South West is a 30 bed ward specialising in orthopaedic and trauma elective and emergency admissions.  As a receiving ward in this busy Level 1 Adult trauma and tertiary referral centre, our patients have a high acuity level and can be complex and demanding. However, with our dynamic team you will be assisted in managing all injury types. You will be supported by a highly trained multidisciplinary team consisting of; medical officers, allied health and a dedicated educational team to equip you with the right tools to grow your surgical nursing journey and provide the highest level of care to our patients.

Registered Nurse –Ward 6 South East – Cardiothoracic

6 South East are looking for a Registered Nurse to become part of a friendly, helpful and skilled team of nurses. Working in an environment that incorporates specialised surgical, cardiac and critical care.

6 South East is a fully monitored 30 bedded ward which comprises of a 12 bedded High Dependency Unit and 18 stepdown beds. The primary role of the cardiothoracic unit is to provide care for post-operative patients who have had heart and lung surgery. As well as providing care for pre-operative patients transferred from other hospitals and for a small cohort of cardiology and medical patients. 

The environment incorporates aspects of critical care, cardiac care and specialised surgical care.  Advanced assessment, non-invasive ventilation, invasive monitoring, epicardial pacing, digital chest drain management, chest ultrasonography and post-operative education are all included as part of nurse-led care on the ward.

Registered Nurse –Ward 4 South – Neurosurgery

4 South are seeking applications from motivated and enthusiastic nurses wanting to expand their skills and knowledge in neurosurgery.

4 South is a 40 bed unit comprising of 13 HDU beds, 3 step down beds, 20 ward beds and 4 Epilepsy monitoring beds. The unit provides care for elective and emergency Neurosurgery, neuro-trauma, ophthalmology and also elective epilepsy patients who require video EEG monitoring. You will have the opportunity to develop your assessment, clinical reasoning, prioritisation and problem solving skills. Whilst gaining exposure and experience to work autonomously in our Neurosurgical High Dependency & Epilepsy Units.

To be successful for this role you will have:

  • A minimum of 1 year acute experience  

  • Excellent communication skills and clinical knowledge.

  • Demonstrated ability to practice collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary health care team

7 South East is a 30 bed ward providing clinical services to trauma patients with multi-system injuries including tracheostomy and skin graft care as well as reconstructive surgery. As a busy surgical receiving ward our patients are admitted direct from ED and ICU you will work alongside our team of senior nurses and educators in a supportive environment to advance your skills and knowledge in this surgical speciality area.

To be successful for this role you will have:

  • Experience in a surgical speciality is desirable
