About the facility 


The Barwon Health Mental Health Drugs and Alcohol Service (MHDAS) provides assessment and treatment to consumers with serious mental health issues living in the Geelong region. Both CRF and PARC work within a recovery framework as a best practice model, and aspire to the care delivered to the consumer being of the highest standard.


MHDAS provides integrated and recovery oriented mental health, drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug & alcohol issues, and their families.


Our service is internationally recognised for its innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are client centred, accessible and family inclusive. We are fortunate to enjoy terrific internal relationships and have developed excellent partnerships with the local community that provide for seamless integrated care for our clients.


MHDAS is entering a new phase of co-design of our service system with people who access our services and our wider community. This will build on our nationally recognized unique cultural approach to the challenges of recovery oriented service delivery to redesign our service system. 


About the role 


Mental Health Drugs and Alcohol Services Community Rehabilitation Facility (CRF) provides an extended residential service, while the co-located Prevention and Recovery Care (PARC) service offers a step up and step down program; offered as either residential, day program or outreach support.


Duties of the Psychiatric Registered Nurse include but are not limited to:



  • Engaging in family inclusive practice and facilitate readjustment to family life, supporting families to be equipped with strategies to minimise the negative impact of a person’s experiences of distress on the family/social unit.

  • Ensuriing consumers and carers are provided with adequate information about their treatment and treatment options at an appropriate time and in a manner that ensures they are able to best understand the material.

  • Identifing own and service training needs in collaboration with line manager.
