Job location

[Position based at Port Phillip Prison] St Paul’s Unit is a 30-bed psychosocial rehabilitation service that provides specialist, voluntary mental health care, treatment and therapeutic programs to prisoners with a mental health diagnosis. Participants selected for the program require psychosocial rehabilitation to minimise risk of relapse and enhance their social functioning in preparation for returning to general prison environment or release to community.

About the Role:

• Work within an ethically and legally sound framework.


• Demonstrate initiative in the delivery of nursing care.


• Apply the recognised nursing competencies and psychiatric nursing standards of practice.


• Use an evidence-based practice approach to nursing.


• Contribute to therapeutic programs and participate in the delivery of individual and group programs to the patients on the unit.

Duties:

• Competently undertake a case management role for allocated patients.


• Demonstrate sound communication skills in recording and handing over clinical information.


• Participates in mandatory safety training and any Forensicare specific mandatory training on an annual basis as defined in the Learning and Development policy.


• Contribute to risk assessment and development of risk management plans in consultation with the multidisciplinary team.

About You:

• Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.


• Knowledge of relevant legislation.


• A commitment to participate in the delivery of therapeutic programs.


• Demonstrated ability to undertake comprehensive nursing assessments of mentally ill patients, and to plan, implement and evaluate nursing interventions.

What you need:

• Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent.


• Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).


• The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential

Successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of three COVID-19 Vaccination prior to commencing work at Forensicare. Under the Victorian Public Health orders, all employees working within the Public Health system must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
