About our Acute Mental Health Aged Care Assessment Unit at Monash Health 

Monash Health is the largest public health service in Victoria, employing over 18,000 people across a range of specialities.

The Kingston Centre plays a vital role in the community providing aged care, aged mental health services and highly regarded rehabilitation programs for adults of all ages. We provide a range of specialist health care and support services to older people, many of whom have complex needs including Aged Care Assessment & cognitive dementia and memory services.

Biala is a 20 bed Ward; 15 beds with ensuites, 5 shared and ECT suite. We are a dynamic multidisciplinary team that provides assessment and treatment to people over the age of 65 with psychiatric illness and/or significant behavioural problems associated with dementia servicing the City of Kingston.

Our staff use specialist skills and programs that are tailored to address individual’s psychiatric, psychological, medical and spiritual needs and to ensure the best possible outcome.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Psychiatric Registered Nurse for our acute Mental Health Aged Care Assessment Unit at Kingston Centre.  This position is an ongoing Full Time position and you will be required to work all shifts across a 24/7 rotating shift roster.

You will be responsible for the provision of optimal levels of Nursing Care to patients within your scope of practice. We are a dynamic multidisciplinary team, catering to the needs of people suffering with mental disorders and behaviour difficulty.

Working in an acute assessment setting, you are confident to provide excellent patient focus and to contribute to this unique specialist care with genuine interest and understanding how you can make a difference to patients’ outcomes.

You will have the capability to work independently, taking on the day to day tasks required for the unit, whilst being supported within a diverse team to bring a positive and rounded service to the patients and their families.

Proven experience in Mental Health is required and we would be open to speaking to graduate nurses that have completed a Mental Health graduate year within Monash Health.

About You

Bringing your passion and genuine interest into Mental Health, you understand the complexities of working in this setting. You are a dynamic, key team player and willing to contribute to the continual improvement of your skills and knowledge as a Mental Health practitioner.

You also have:

  • Demonstrated Mental Health Nursing experience (essential),

  • Minimum of post graduate Diploma in Mental Health nursing OR hold a specialist post basic course which led to registration as a Psychiatric Nurse

  • OR experience in a specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing program

  • Willingness to take on a portfolio(s) contributing to quality improvements and National Standards

  • Current Australian AHPRA nursing registration

  • The ability to live and work in Victoria (Australia) without restriction, including ability to obtain all necessary police clearances and a Working with Children Check
