About the role

Grampians Health has a vacancy for an Accredited Registrar to work on a fixed term contract in 2022/2023 to assist in the delivery of care to mental health patients and to further develop or consolidate expertise appropriate to the stage of training.

The position aims to provide experience required for further progress into psychiatric training programs.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Daily review of inpatients, participation in wards rounds and coordination of discharge planning on wards
  • Regular review of patients in community mental health clinics or consultation assessments within the general hospitals, Emergency Departments or in the community with an integrated community care model
  • Completion of appropriate ward/community paperwork, discharge summaries/letters and legal paperwork required by the Mental Health Act
  • Attendance at the Mental Health Tribunals as required

Skills and experience

Essential

  • Satisfactorily completed Stage 2 RANZCP training for local trainees
    OR be eligible for the Specialist or SST Pathway with RANZCP for Specialist IMGs
  • Completed medical degree (evidence of qualifications required)
    OR be eligible for limited Registration for Postgraduate training for SIMGs
    OR Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Desirable

  • Proven ability to plan, deliver and evaluate services and programs to meet the needs of patients and their families
  • Proven ability to give clinical leadership to staff and to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated clinical competence at a senior level and adequate experience in the field of psychiatry after obtaining post graduate qualifications
  • Demonstrate commitment to and competency in clinical teaching
  • Very good communication, consultancy and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in hospital-based psychiatry, research and undergraduate/post graduate teaching
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Psychiatric Services policy and other relevant legislation and regulations
