Job Description

The Disability Services Commissioner (the Commissioner) is an independent statutory authority established under the Disability Act 2006 (the Act). The Commissioner provides a strong, independent voice to promote and protect the rights of people using disability services, exercising powers provided or referred to the Commissioner under the Act to; resolve complaints about Victorian disability service providers, including through conciliation or investigation as necessary; provide oversight reviews of client incident reports; undertake an annual systemic review of deaths in disability services; conduct own initiated investigations of disability service providers; and conduct own initiated investigations of systemic issues impacting on the safety and well-being of people receiving funded disability services in Victoria.

There are a number of positions available that will support the Resolutions and Investigations Teams. Roles will be assigned based on skills and experience.

The Resolutions/Investigations Officer will contribute to the strategic objectives of the office with a focus on improved service outcomes for people with a disability. 

The role will be responsible for:

  • Managing a caseload of complaints (intake, early resolution, assessment) and conciliation
  • Investigations of critical incident reports involving the abuse of people with disability receiving support from disability service providers
  • Management, identification and escalation of risk
  • Ensuring consideration of the human rights, needs and views of the person with a disability

Due to the impending closure of the DSC, we will be moving through a transition phase where staff may be required to be flexible across a range of roles within the DSC.

  • Able to provide person centred and high-quality customer service to a broad range of people
  • Analytical and solution focussed
  • Highly organised and able to prioritise, track and complete multiple tasks
  • Skilled and experienced in complaints resolution or investigations involving adults and children of varying abilities

Secondment arrangements would be favourably considered.
