Safety Manager  

  • Key role providing occupational, health and safety management at The Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct 

  • Drive cultural change and improve health and safety outcomes  

  • VPS Grade 6 ongoing role earning $127,467 – $170,579 per year plus super 

What will the Safety Manager do? 

As Safety Manager, you will provide high level advice and support to executive and senior leaders to drive cultural change, support the COVID-19 response and improve safety performance outcomes.  

The Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct is scheduled to open progressively from mid-2023. The Safety Manager, Cherry Creek will be responsible for providing advice and management of OHS related matters for the operationalisation and mobilisation of the new facility. 

You will also: 

  • Work collaboratively to identify process and performance gaps and influence senior executives and stakeholders in developing strategic initiatives. 

  • Demonstrate safety leadership by providing coaching and mentoring for the site's executive leadership group, frontline leaders and staff in the resolution of complex operational problems, such as occupational violence, manual handling, slip/trip and fall incidents. 

  • Engage with a range of external stakeholders including WorkSafe, to facilitate communication, consultation and cooperation. 

  • Supervise and guide the day-to-day activities of the safety coordinator on site. 

What skills should I have? 

To thrive in this role, you will have comprehensive knowledge, understanding and experience in the application of OHS legislation, compliance codes, codes of practice and regulations and the Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances legislation and regulations.  

It is also ideal if you possess: 

  • Significant industry experience in occupational health and safety management systems. 

  • Expertise in consulting with senior leaders and managers in the delivery of key outcomes in health and safety, change management and related workplace improvement initiatives.  

  • Experience in delivering cultural change in health, safety and wellbeing.
