Austin Health Microbiology Department uses state-of-the-art automation to efficiently deliver high quality results. An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Scientist Grade 1 to join the Microbiology Department in a temporary (to 31 December 2021) full-time position.



Applicants must be available to participate in weekday, weeknight, weekend (day) and weekend (afternoon), public holiday, overnight (23:00 to 07.30) and on-call roster as required. This position requires an appropriately qualified scientist with relevant experience in a diagnostic medical microbiology laboratory processing all specimen types, performing/interpreting microscopy, culture reading, isolate identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing. Experience with use of various automation (including MALDI-TOF MS, Vitek 2 AST, Bactec FX, Atellica urine analysis) and PCR test platforms (GeneXpert, BD Max) is desirable. To be successful in this role you must demonstrate key responsibilities as outlined in the Position Description, including good communication skills, capable of working effectively, independently and within a laboratory team.
