Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) leads emergency management in Victoria by working with government, agencies and business to strengthen their capacity to withstand, plan for, respond to and recover from emergencies. EMV is a statutory entity and is part of the Department of Justice & Community Safety (the Department). The Department, through the Secretary, employs EMV staff and provides corporate functions to EMV. EMV is led jointly by the Chief Executive (CE) and the Emergency Management Commissioner (EMC).

EMV has a fantastic opportunity for a qualified, capable and enthusiastic communications professional to join our team and provide a focus to the development of whole of government strategies for the improvement of access to information for people with disabilities, before , during and after emergencies.

Working within the Emergency Management Commissioner's office, you will develop collaborative relationships across EMV, the broader VPS and emergency sector. You will utilise your well refined communication skills and tools to provide leadership in this critical area of support to the Victorian Community. Experience partnering with people with disabilities will be well regarded.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Develop emergency preparedness and response plans and practice guides for EMV, the State Control Centre (SCC), and the sector to demonstrably improve access to emergency information for everyone regardless of ability.
  • Develop training programs to build the capacity of the emergency management sector about effective and accessible communications.
  • Create enduring tools and resources for, and with people with disability to improve their access to emergency information on Victorian government channels.
  • Work with relevant agencies and departments to ensure accessible emergency management and planning communications is a priority

About you

To be successful you will need:

  • to be able to think logically and objectively.
  • the strength of character to work with integrity and commitment.
  • demonstrable experience in the development of communication programs across a range of stakeholders, ideally including partnering with people with disability.
  • A strong service delivery focus.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes.

Early Retirement Scheme:

A re-employment restriction of one year applies to all recipients of an Early Retirement Scheme package from the VPS.
